NLS is the abbreviation of New Librarians’ Symposium. It is a biennial symposium run by ALIA for students, new graduates and early career professionals.

The first event was held in Brisbane in 2002 with the theme “Moving Beyond Stereotypes”. Subsequent events have been around Australia, proving to be a popular professional development for new, newish and almost librarians, archivists, records managers and other information professionals in the GLAMR sector.

People come to NLS from all around Australia and New Zealand to meet and connect with others in their industry, learn new ideas and get inspired about their career. NLS provides a welcoming environment for first time attendees, presenters and committee members to develop their skills, confidence and professional networks.
